About the Artists

 Judy Dater

Judy Dater

Judy Dater is a photographer who has lived in and worked in the Bay Area most of her life, and has exhibited and lectured at Berkeley Art Center. Dater is best known for her portraits, nudes, and self-portraits. A five-decade retrospective of her work "Only Human" is currently on view at the deYoung Museum, celebrating her achievement as a pioneering figure in 1970s feminist art. Dater has received numerous awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship and grants from the National Endowments for the Arts. 

 Mildred Howard

Mildred Howard

Mildred Howard is an installation artist and sculptor who was raised in Berkeley and received her MFA from John F. Kennedy University. She had a solo exhibition at BAC in 1997 and an official day named in her honor by the mayor of Berkeley. She has won numerous awards such as two Rockefeller fellowships, the NEA fellowship in sculpture, and the Joan Mitchell award.  Howard is also included in many museums such as the deYoung Museum, the Oakland Museum, and SFMOMA.

 Hung Liu

Hung Liu

Hung Liu is a painter who has was born in China but has lived and worked most of her artistic career in the Bay Area, and has participated in many exhibitions at Berkeley Art Center.  She is best known for her epic narrative canvases of layered brushstrokes and drips of linseed oil. Liu has received the Joan Mitchell Fellowship and an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.  She was recent solo shows at Kala Art Institute and SFMOMA.
