Volunteer Opportunities:
Berkeley Art Center could not exist without the help of wonderful volunteers — and now needs volunteer assistance more than ever! Our volunteers’ time is always put to good use, assisting us at special events, gallery sitting, and helping with mailings or installing exhibitions. To find out how you can help, please e-mail us at info [at] berkeleyartcenter.org and put “Volunteer” in the subject line, or call (510) 644-6893.
Internship Opportunities
Internships at the Berkeley Art Center provide experience to aspiring professionals – experience not just for your resume, but for your future. If you are one of our interns, you sign a letter of agreement stating that you will work a specific number of hours each week until your project is completed. Students pursuing related degrees in art, art history, film studies, literature, and/or art education are encouraged to apply as part of their educational program. All levels of experience will be considered, as appropriate to the particular internship program.
I really appreciate having had the opportunity to work at such a great institution with almost no prior experience. My time here has really demonstrated to me the immense benefits art has on a community and taught me how to properly appreciate contemporary art. The people, art, and artists I have met, seen, or otherwise interacted with here have really encouraged me to continue my aspirations towards a career as a museum curator or administration."

Youth Arts Festival Intern
Youth Arts Festival interns work closely with BAC staff and with public school teachers. Interns may travel to public schools and help teachers transport the students’ art work and make sure that the art is properly identified. At BAC, intern(s) will help teachers install students’ work, and may create wall labels for each work and for each school. Intern(s) may be asked to seek out music or dance performance groups or poetry reading, drama, or other Festival-related activities, as appropriate. Interns also help generate publicity via the development and distribution of flyers and/or web-based content.
Please note that the next Youth Arts Festival exhibition is scheduled in early 2011. If interested in working on this project, please apply no earlier than September 1, 2010. Interested parties may submit a cover letter and resume detailing your level of interest and time commitment to info [at] berkeleyartcenter.org, with the subject line “Youth Arts Festival Intern”.
