We are pleased to start the summer with a truly celebratory exhibition on view at Berkeley Art Center through August 8. Local Treasures: Six Extraordinary Artists, celebrates the unique and distinctly Bay-Area talents of six amazing people: Robert Brady, Squeak Carnwath, Jim Melchert, Katherine Sherwood, Livia Stein, and Gale Wagner. The exhibition was born from a conversation nearly a year ago between myself and Richard Whittaker, editor and publisher of works & conversations. We thought it would be wonderful to show just a few of the amazing artists right in our own backyard whom Richard has interviewed and feature these texts along with the work. We were interested in selecting work that was somehow more personal and a bit surprising, mirroring the nature of Richard’s revealing interviews. The effect is an exhibition that contains new revelations of these remarkable artists and works that are in memorable dialogue and resonance with one another in the intimate chapel-like space of Berkeley Art Center. Don’t miss this! Following this exciting summer show is our annual juried exhibition, with selections in all media by Lauren Davies and Carrie Lederer. And following this, a wonderful exhibition and educational exhibition project entitled Intimate Nature: Explorations in and around Berkeley Art Center. Also, we will soon be announcing the Fall line-up of our Fall Artist Lecture Series which promises to include some outstanding and noteworthy guests.
