About the artist:
Will Brown is a collaborative project based in a storefront space in San Francisco’s Mission District. Their main objective is to manipulate the structures of exhibition-making as a critical practice. Will Brown is Lindsey White, Jordan Stein, and David Kasprzak. Will Brown has been featured in Artforum, Frieze, Art Practical, Art Log, KQED, and the Bold Italic. Will Brown was a 2013 Artist-in-Residence at Headlands Center for the Arts in Marin, CA and has realized projects with Wattis Institute, Kadist Foundation, and di Rosa in Napa Valley, CA. Will Brown has a forthcoming exhibition with the Berkeley Art Museum's MATRIX program in Spring 2015. More info at www.wearewillbrown.com
Lindsey White is an Oklahoma native who lives and works in San Francisco, CA. Through video, photography, and sculpture, White models a type of site-gag index, working with the language of magic and comedy to present the unexpected and impossible in everyday life. She has exhibited locally at Eli Ridgway Gallery, SFO Museum, Southern Exposure, San Francisco Arts Commission, New Langton Arts, and Headlands Center for the Arts,, and nationally and internationally at the New York Book Fair, Aurora Picture Show in Houston, TX, Deadpan Exchange II Festival in Berlin, and the Barengasse Museum in Zurich. She was an Artist-in-Residence at Headlands Center for the Arts in 2010, a recipient of the 2008-2009 Fellowship at the Kala Institute of Art in Berkeley, CA, a finalist in 2012 and 2010 for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s prestigious Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art (SECA) Award, a 2013 finalist for the Eureka Fellowship, and a John Gutmann Fellowship Nominee. She teaches at San Francisco Art Institute and California College of the Arts.
CONVERSATIONS@Berkeley Art Center brings together artists and scholars in a dialogue about art, process and the Bay Area’s contemporary creative climate.
