Gisela E. Insuaste, Executive Director
Gisela Insuaste (she/they) is a Latine artist, educator, and cultural producer based in Oakland with nearly 20 years of experience in the arts. She has worked with various cultural organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and Chicago. Most recently, she served as the Education and Public Programs Director at Kala Art Institute, where she promoted equitable access to arts education, professional development, and public programming. She is passionate about connecting, collaborating, and building community in meaningful ways with diverse populations of all ages and backgrounds. Gisela has received numerous awards, including from Artadia and MacDowell, and fellowships from the Emerging Arts Professionals (SF) and Smithsonian’s Latino Museum Studies Program. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally at venues like the Bronx Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Outside of her art practice, Gisela enjoys exploring her environment by bike or on foot, capturing photos and creating drawings, paintings, and sculptures inspired by urban and natural settings. She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA in Anthropology and Studio Art from Dartmouth College.

Marthe Benoit (she/her) is an art historian and curator based in Oakland who specializes in North American art, particularly Californian art from the 1970s. She holds an MA in Art History with a focus on research from the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and an MA in Curatorial Studies from the University of Rennes 2 (Brittany, France). Her work examines the intersections of queer and racial identities within the context of the 20th century. Marthe has a particular interest in exploring how visual culture reflects and challenges societal norms.
